Nipika Mountain Resort is surrounded by a magnificent trail network, the Cross River Canyon Recreation Site, spanning nearly 1,500 acres. The trails are operated by Nipika Mountain Resort in partnership with Recreation Sites and Trails BC.
The trails are set along the Kootenay and Cross River valleys with scenic vistas, waterfalls, and wildlife viewing.
Nordic skiing
A cross country skiing mecca with 50km of groomed trails. They are professionally groomed on a regular basis for both classic and skate skiing. The terrain ranges from beginner to expert and flows through treed areas, open spaces with mountain views, and alongside the Kootenay and Cross Rivers.
Fat biking
There are 30km of dedicated fat bike trails, groomed into smooth corduroy. Imagine singletrack fun in winter: flowy with rollers. Ride the south loop for a scenic expanse with panoramic views. Ride the north loop for forested trails with views of the canyon and rivers, and to ride across the Natural Bridge.
Snowshoeing
There are a variety of dedicated snowshoe trails that run on singletrack through the trees, along clifftops, and beside the rivers.
Rentals & lessons
We have adult and youth cross country ski gear, fat bikes and helmets, and snowshoes for rent. There are also a couple Chariots with ski/hike attachments so the whole family can participate.
Cross-country ski lessons are offered most days in winter. Learn or fine tune your classic or skate ski technique.
Mountain biking, trail running & hiking
Hop on your bike, lace up your running shoes, or grab your hiking poles and go.
Nipika Mountain Resort is an outdoor adventure destination with 50km of trails right outside the cabin doors and parking lot.
Trails range from beginner to expert and can be described as smooth, flowy, rooty, and technical.
They run both north and south from the resort. The south loop offers beginner terrain, the north trails towards the Cross River vary from beginner to intermediate and expert and the trails on the north side of the Cross River – across the Natural Bridge – are expert.
Grab a map from the day lodge or talk to one of the hosts for advice on which trails to ride, run, or hike. (We also have a fleet of fat bikes that can be rented for summer riding.)
We offer guided day hikes on beautiful alpine passes if you would feel more comfortable with a guide. We also offer mountain bike lessons so you can learn to safely and efficiently ride your bike on a trail network.
Nipika’s professional disc golf course starts near the Day Lodge and meanders through the forest.
